Priest robbed by Yazoo homeless man armed with brick

YAZOO CITY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Monday night, around 9:21 p.m. Vicksburg Police responded to St Paul Catholic Church on Crawford Street regarding an armed robbery.

Once on scene, police spoke with a priest who said he was robbed by Thomas Lee Jiles of Yazoo.

The priest told police he had tried to help Jiles earlier that day after he told him he was homeless and needed some money to try and get back to Yazoo.

The priest bought a room for Jiles at the Relax Inn located at 1313 Walnut Street. He left the hotel and went back to the church. Later that day, Jiles also went to the church, hid in the bushes and jumped the priest armed with a brick.

Jiles threatened to kill the priest if he didn't give him a hundred dollars.

Vicksburg Police investigator obtained a warrant for 52-year-old Thomas Lee Jiles arrest for armed robbery. Jiles was arrested at the Relax Inn around 10:47 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Jiles is charged with one count of armed robbery, he will appear in the Vicksburg Municipal Court on Wednesday April 18, around 10:00 a.m. Jiles will be held in the Issaquena Correctional Facility without bond pending his arraignment.
