The academics are as impressive as the athletics for the Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete Awards. Northwest Rankin's Jeremiah Kaler competed in cross country, soccer, and track & field. He plans to major in aerospace engineering at Alabama-Huntsville.

Alex Bowen is number 1 in her senior class and shines in the outfield for 25-0 Neshoba Central softball. "It's awesome. I'm the 2nd girl to even win it for Neshoba Central, it's just really an honor," Bowen said. "Coach Embry says that we've got a big target on our chest before we play every single game. It pushes us to play our best every game. It pushes us to not give up. Whenever we're down or we're tied up going into the 7th inning, we just push through it no matter what."

Kosciusko's Thomas Brunt has a 4.0 GPA and competed in 4 sports. "It was tough," Brunt said. "Every afternoon I was busy with every type of sport I was doing. Juggling band, tennis, cross country, track, soccer, but my family really helped me through it. Helped get everything organized for me."

We'll have the Pine Belt in the Ivy League: Oak Grove two-sport standout Noah Harris is heading to Harvard.

"I really want to pursue the legal field because I think there's a lot of value in being able to give people a voice in the court room when they need it the most. When they've been wronged by the judicial system or by any other party. You want to help them out. I want to be a lawyer for that reason."

Sixteen seniors were honored as Lindy Callahan Scholar-Athlete winners on Monday. Each standout earns a $1500 scholarship. They'll carry priceless prep memories.
