BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Waiting in line at the grocery store is becoming a thing of the past as stores introduce new time-saving technologies.

The newest technology is called Scan, Bag, Go and, so far, it's only being used in Mississippi at the Kroger in Brandon.

The palm-sized device allows customers to monitor their shopping totals and check out as they fill up their buggies -- a time saving measure that both customer and store employees are seeming to enjoy.

"There's no more waiting in line." said Kroger's Front End Transformation Trainer, Fredrecia Smith. "You don't have to wait behind other customers to be checked out by a cashier. There's no more having unload their buggies when they go to self check out. It's already bagged so the only time you spend in the store is the time it takes you to place it in your basket."

You can grab one of the palm size devices as you walk in or you can download the "Scan, Bag, Go" app the on your smart phone.

"We actually operate on the trust system, but we do have a random verification to where certain customers are selected." Smith explained. "We don't know who or why they are selected, but we have an opportunity at that time to verify that everything in their bag is scanned correctly."

So far, the Brandon Kroger is the only store in the state with the new system, but they plan on having seven systems installed throughout the metro area.
