MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame golf tournament teed off today, with some high-profile coaches taking a couple swings on the green.

The tournament took place at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, which gave some former coaches and athletes a chance to relax and catch up with some former Mississippi greats.

Coaches, like former JSU baseball coach Bob Braddy, made an appearance and felt confident coming into the tournament.

"Oh man this is awesome," said Braddy. "I tell you what I can't put into words, that when you see the individuals out here, the people who have been inducted, it makes you know how lucky you really are for the comradery, and it's such a special event. I'm going to win of course, I'm always going to win."

Current Southern Miss head football coach Jay Hopson was also there, but not to compete, just relax and enjoy the company at the tournament.

"It's a great event, I mean you're talking about an event that sponsors supporting the legends of Mississippi Sports," said Hopson. "So how fantastic is that? Mississippi is a state that's blessed with a great athletic heritage and to be out here with these guys is just a true pleasure."

Former NFL and college players were also there to enjoy the course and reminisce on the good a coach can bring to the table for younger players.

Michael Lewis, former New Orleans Saints pro-bowler, was there and expressed how a good coach can be beneficial for players.

"It's great to be around those guys, you know just to show you that you're around a lot of guys that bring so much to Mississippi," he said. "Not just in the sports realm, but kids that they have touched as well that move on to go to college sand off on to the NFL and things like that also."
