JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Family and friends celebrated the life of Jackson's most recent homicide victim Tuesday evening.

One week ago today, life changed for the Spells family when 26-year-old April Spells was shot at Fuel Time gas station on Bullard Street. Family and friends showed their love for her Tuesday by releasing balloons at the same location where the shooting took place.

Both of Spells' daughters were at the vigil but they did not want to speak on camera. They did say that they miss their mother, and they know that she is still here.

What started as an argument between friends ended in tragedy. Brittany Hilliard-Ransom allegedly shot Spells in the head.

Ransom was initially charged with aggravated assault, but her charges were upgraded to murder after Spells died Thursday, April 19.

Aside from the fact that the two were allegedly friends, according to those who knew her, Spells was the godmother of Ransom's children. When asked about this detail, family members chose not to discuss it.

Spells' brother, Lee Edward Bonner, was shot and killed by police in a officer-involved shooting two months ago.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
