CONSIDER THIS: Costco Zoning Lawsuit

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Supreme Court ruled on the Costco zoning lawsuit and overturned a lower court ruling that allowed the company to build a fuel station on the same site as the warehouse shopping facility.

The court ruled the proposed rezoning by Ridgeland officials to allow the fuel station was not handled correctly and is not allowed under the current zoning classification.  However, even with the fuel station off the table, it appears Costco is moving forward with plans to build the store.

Costco is very successful and very popular with shoppers. It pays higher wages and offers better benefits than comparable businesses and is known to give back to organizations that serve the communities where it locates its stores.

Having a Costco might not be the deciding factor for someone considering relocating to Central Mississippi but having one certainly won’t hurt when businesses are recruiting employees to the area.

Hopefully Costco will move forward with construction even though the fuel station is not an option at this time. It’s a well-run company and would be a welcome addition to the metro area.
