HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Wednesday was denim day for the Hinds County Sheriff's Office.

Instead of wearing uniforms, deputies wear blue jeans to raise awareness about sexual assault.

They wore denim in honor of a sexual assault victim, who was raped, despite the fact that she was wearing tight jeans.

A judge threw the case out because the judge reasoned if the jeans were tight, then the victim must have assisted her attacker in taking them off.

Local law enforcement says that is unacceptable and they want victims to know they aren't alone.

"Things like that that happen. People would rather keep them bottled up," said Hinds County Sheriff Victor Mason. "And feel like if I tell it, I might get in trouble. Or if I tell it, the person I told it to might go back and tell that person. We are not about that. We are about getting these thugs off the streets and I want to get them off the street."

A special reception was held after today's presentation.

Authorities want victims to know that there is never a justification for sexual assault.
