BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The city of Brandon has issued a precautionary Boil Water Alert for customers who get their drinking water from the City of Brandon.

Spokesperson Charles Smith says this precautionary action was necessary because the system lost pressure due to a water main repair.

This affects approximately 285 City of Brandon customers along Burnham Road, including those in or along Hubbard Wilson Lane, Chalet Strausse, Crosscreek Subdivision, Crossview Court, Lakeshore Drive, Asbury Lane Subdivision, Stonehendge Subdivision, Daniel Lane, Booker Road, Booker Lake Road, Shadowlawn Street, Blackbridge Drive, Somerset Lane, Arbor Court, Brock Circle, and addresses 98 through 740 Burnham Road.

When a water distribution system loses pressure, contaminants can siphon back into the system. Public health officials consider any system that has lost pressure contaminated until tests of the water prove otherwise. As soon as pressure is restored to those customers affected, water system officials will begin collecting water samples for testing and recommend that consumers vigorously boil water for one minute before it is consumed or use an alternate source for drinking/cooking. Users will be notified when tests indicate the water is safe to drink.
