Chiefs select Breeland Speaks in 2nd Round of 2018 NFL Draft

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson native went off the board in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Ole Miss defensive end Breeland Speaks with the 46th overall pick.

The Callaway alum racked up 67 tackles in his junior season with the Rebels. Twelve of those came in his final game as Ole Miss won the Egg Bowl. Speaks had 7 sacks in 2017, good for 6th in the SEC.

ESPN's Mel Kiper said in a conference call last week that Speaks was the "most underrated defensive player" in the draft.

He's the first Jackson native picked in the NFL Draft since Christian Ringo in 2015.
