JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A mother and daughter were shot during a home invasion in west Jackson early Monday morning.

According to Jackson police, the mother died on scene and the daughter has been taken to the hospital for her injuries.

Family identified the woman who was killed as Evvie Williams. According to police, she is 57-years-old. Her daughter, 24-year-old Jaalyn Williams, was shot in the face.

According to Sgt. Holmes with Jackson Police, the call came in as a burglary in progress. 

Police say Evvie Williams was shot in the head and died on scene. Jaalyn Williams was shot in the face and has been taken to the hospital.

Sgt. Holmes said the suspect came in the front door and shots were fired. He believes one woman was shot inside and one was shot outside. 

The suspect ran away on foot. Police say they believe he is a black male but they have no other description right now.

Officers are taking evidence from outside of a home at the intersection of Wingfield St. and Central St.
