VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Vicksburg home built in 1880 went up in flames Tuesday night.

Vicksburg and Warren County fire officials were called to the two story home on Cherry Street just before 7:40 p.m. The second story of the home was on fire and multiple Vicksburg Fire Department units were on scene.

Officials say it appears the fire started around the second floor of the home. It spread to the attic, but crews were able to get it under control.

Due to the older wooden structure and materials in the home, Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk says it took a while to get the fire under control, but it did not spread to nearby structures.

There were no injuries and nobody was home at the time of the fire, but crews are still trying to locate the family dog.

According to Fire Chief Danczyk, one firefighter experienced exhaustion while putting it out.

The fire is currently under investigation.
