FLOWOOD, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Officer Eric Jones of the Flowood Police Department got the catch of the day Wednesday.

It wasn't a traffic stop so much as a traffic stopper. About a 4-foot alligator was sunning himself in the middle of Old Brandon Road at Casey's Lane near the Pearl River this morning when the Flowood Police Department got the call. Officer Jones got the honor.

He says someone else had already wrapped the tape around his snout.

Alligators aren't uncommon in Flowood near the Pearl River and Crystal Lake and Mirror Lake on Lakeland Drive. Officer Jones says the department has grown accustom to catching them and hauling them out to the Reservoir where they have room to swim and not block the roads in town.
