Mississippi State basketball coach Ben Howland held a press conference Wednesday afternoon. He was thrilled for the return of Quinndary Weatherspoon, Nick Weatherspoon, Lamar Peters, and Aric Holman.
Howland also revealed that MSU will have a tougher non-conference schedule in the 2018-19 season.
"We know we are playing in a tournament against Arizona State, and possibly against N.C. State or Utah State in a second game. I’m hopeful that we will play Long Beach State. It looks like we will agree to play Wright State on December 22 up in Jackson. They are picked to win their league, and they have a returning center who is 6-9 and 300 pounds. He is a great player and with a great team. We have Cincinnati coming here, and BYU was announced Tuesday. They have a great program and an outstanding basketball tradition. Dayton has amongst the best basketball fans in the country. It is so loud. They sold out every game. This non-conference schedule will be very challenging, but good for us."
The Bulldogs had played Southern Miss at the Mississippi Coliseum the last two seasons. Wright State won the Horizon League in 2017-18, reaching the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Raiders are coached by Delta State alum Scott Nagy.
