Members of a Vicksburg church are now looking for a new place to worship.
The roof of the Locust Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Ole Highway 27 was opened to the heavens Thursday.
Church officials say an exterior wall caved in, causing the roof to collapse.
No one was inside the church at the time.
Deacons at the church say they had suspended activities in the church two weeks ago after heavy rains caused significant roof damage to the structure.
They had placed a blue tarp on the roof to prevent more damage from rain water.
Church leaders are certain they will be able to rebuild.
"I really can't see the inside," said church deacon Eugene Anderson. "We had moved some pews out of the church, but half of the pews are probably in. The choir stand, piano and organ, from what I can see from the outside, look like they might be destroyed."
A structural engineer is set to inspect the damage to determine the cause of the collapse.
