Press Release from the Mississippi Braves
M-Braves starting pitcher Touki Toussaint tossed six shutout innings with ten strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI as the Braves beat Pensacola 9-2 on Friday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The win is the first in the current series and stops a two-game skid.
The Braves scored all nine of their runs in two innings, the fourth and the sixth.
Austin Riley started the fourth inning with a double and immediately scored on a Tyler Neslony single to center. Alex Jackson reached on a Pensacola error placing two on base for Travis Demeritte. The New York native ripped a triple to the gap in left-center scoring Neslony and Jackson to make it 3-0. Toussaint came to the plate with two outs and lined a single to left scoring Demeritte to cap off the four-run inning.
In the sixth, Connor Lien scored Jackson with a double, setting up Toussaint again. The 21-year-old from Coral Springs, FL hit a broken-bat flare to shallow right field bringing home Tyler Marlette, and it was 6-0 M-Braves. Luis Valenzuela cracked a double that scored Lien, and then Toussaint would score on a passed ball. The final run of the inning came across as Riley reached on a three-base error allowing Valenzuela to score and make it 9-0.
The five-run sixth was the largest single inning of the season for the Braves.
Valenzuela, Riley, and Toussaint had multi-hit games for the Braves, while Jackson scored twice.
Toussaint (2-1) cruised through Pensacola's lineup on Friday night and logged double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time in his career. He threw 89 pitches and 60 of those for strikes. Over his last two starts, Toussaint has surrendered just one run over 13.0 innings with 17 strikeouts and only two walks.
