JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One local grandmother is flying high after going to the senior prom. She was asked to go by a very special person, and she says she just couldn't say no.

When Idell Benton answered her grandson's call, she figured he was just calling to "shoot the breeze," but this time...he had a very important question to ask her.

"He said 'umm granny, would you like to go to the prom with me?' And of course I said yes," she said.

Once her grandson, Jim Hill High School senior Jydarius Page, got his answer — it was on.

"I was like okay, we got to get with it, we got to get the dress," Page said. "I mean we only got a month to go."

After they agreed on a color theme, Benton ordered her dress and Page got his tuxedo.

"I wore these, then I had to get these," Page said, pointing to a blue jacket and rhinestone covered loafers in his closet.

Once the day arrived and everyone was dressed, it was time.

"Grandma you ready? Okay cool I'm ready," Page said, describing the moment before they left.

Finally, the moment she had been waiting for...it was time to make their grand entrance.

"They were like, 'you brought your mom?' And said no, I'm the grandmother and they were like oh my God, oh my God!!!" Benton said, explaining the reactions they received when they arrived at the venue.

When the word spread.....

"Like girls were everywhere basically," Page said. "Coming up to me and grabbing me saying you are so cute."

When asked what she thought about her grandson doing something so sweet, Benton responded with tears in her eyes.

"I love him. I just love him so much," she said. "Much love. I love him so much."

When asked why his grandmother is so special and why he chose to take her as his date, Page answered instantly with nothing but joy in his voice.

"My granny is my everything," he said. "She's my road dog. When she's with me or I'm with her, nothing else matters."

Page also asked his grandmother to accompany him to the after-party but she said no because she didn't want to cramp his style.
