37th annual Pepsi Pops happening tonight in Ridgeland

The 37th annual Pepsi Pops will take place Friday, May 11, at Ross Barnett Reservoir’s Old Trace Park — with the assistance of Pepsi-Cola distributor, Brown Bottling Group.

The gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and special guest hosts Marshall Ramsey and WLBT’s Dave Roberts will introduce the pre-concert entertainment at 5:15 p.m. Featured groups include the Mississippi Symphony Youth Orchestra, Southern Komfort Brass Band and Creative Images Radio Musicians.

Additional sponsors include Regions Bank, EastGroup Properties and BKD, LLP., with media sponsorships from WLBT, iHeart Radio, MISS 103FM, Hallelujah 95.5FM, 105.1 THE RIVER and Z106.7FM.

There will be an activities area for children in the Pepsi Playground open from 5:00 p.m. until around 8:00 p.m. In addition to inflatable slides and an obstacle course, children can enjoy a number of other games and activities.

This year’s food vendors, The Manship and Burgers & Blues, will be selling treats and Pepsi beverage products. Guests are also invited to bring their family picnic basket to the event. The annual “Best Picnic Design” contest winners will be announced during the program with prizes donated by Mangia Bene. The Jackson Symphony League will be selling glow sticks and other popular merchandise.

The Madison Central High School Airforce Junior ROTC will present the colors at 7:30 p.m., followed by Maestro Crafton Beck leading the audience in singing the Star Spangled Banner.

Beck will also lead the MSO in a rousing concert of audience favorites, including soundtrack music from Star Wars, Mary Poppins and selections from the Broadway musical South Pacific as well as patriotic songs and marches by John Phillip Sousa and Aaron Copland.

A special feature will be a guest conducting appearance by Michael Balfour, who will lead the orchestra in the Liberty Bell March. He graduates from Magnolia Speech School next month, where he’s under the tutelage of Music Therapist Lisa Goolsby. His appearance is sponsored by BKD.

Tickets are $5 for children ages 4-18, $15 for adults in advance and $20 at the gate. Advance tickets may can be purchased HERE or by calling the MSO office at (601-960-1565.
