The man accused in a deadly shooting back in 2015 pleads guilty to second degree murder.

29-year-old Deion Hicks is now scheduled to be sentenced June 26.

Police say in September 2015, 18-year-old Christopher Silas was shot and killed after a fight broke out following a street race on East Frontage Road off I-55 in Jackson.

Silas' family was in the courtroom Tuesday to hear the guilty plea. Silas' mother, Pam Reed, said she is glad her family has been spared going through a trial.
