JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A former Miss Mississippi who made the Top 13 of American Idol is making a name for herself in Christian music.

Jasmine Murray's breakout career is gaining lots of attention. She shares the journey and battle to keep hitting the high notes of life.

Despite tremendous success in pageants and with her voice, 26-year-old Jasmine Murray admits it has not been easy, especially starting her professional singing career.

She began having panic attacks and anxiety.

"I started to kind of really withdraw and I just started rehashing conversations in my head," Murray said. "Like 'oh no, did I say the wrong thing' or 'oh my gosh, I don't want them to think that I meant this and I didn't mean this'. That's when I started to realize okay this isn't you, this isn't normal for you."

The singer says her breakthrough was the inspiration for the first song she wrote, Fearless.

"The song is a declaration for me and I hope for many other people," explained Murray. "We've all been afraid of something at one point or another and I think, you know, we all have that in common so I feel like everyone can relate to this song."

Her career in Christian music is getting a big boost. She's been nominated for two awards and fans get to make the choice.

"I'm up for Female Artist of the Year and Breakout Single of the Year for Fearless," said Murray.

Murray has moved from Mississippi to Nashville. Her new music will be released in June and the winner of the KLOVE Awards will be announced May 27.
