"Kingston's life set a purpose," said North Jackson Elementary School Principal Kimberly Smith. "So as we continue to honor children with his legacy of being courageous, then we're able to have his legacy to live on. So it means a lot to our school."

Kingston's cousin Haydenne described what the award represents.

"The student exhibited courage as he or she persevered through the year, showing mental and moral strength, even when he or she was scared, or when things were difficult," read fourth grader Haydenne Archie, Kingston's cousin from a statement drafted by Kingston's parents' families.

6-year-old Ayden Lindsey was the winner. His mother says that was a complete surprise.

"I was just blown away, but so very excited," said Jessica Lindsey. "And I just know God is good. And I know Kingston is in Heaven shining down and happy to see another kid receive an award in his honor."

The looks on Kingston's mother and father's faces after they present the trophy say it all: happy for the chance to honor Kingston, but reminded that he never attended his own graduation ceremony.

"His life was lost in vain, so we want to keep Kingston's name going - his legacy going," said Kingston's grandmother, Lynn Winston.

"He was very joyful person, and he was very fun to be around," added Haydenne Archie.

And now, Kingston's name, rather than bringing tears, is making the Courage Award Winners smile.
