The Mississippi Braves (23-27) scored 10 runs on 14 hits in route to defeating the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (20-30) by a final score of 10-2 in Sunday afternoon's rubber match contest.
M-Braves left fielder, Travis Demeritte powered the M-Braves offense by going 2-for-4 at the plate with HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, and a BB.
The M-Braves offense continued their first inning scoring streak for the third consecutive day after Demeritte roped a line drive RBI double down the left field line, allowing Tyler Neslony to score.
Mississippi added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Neslony grounded out to first base, which allowed Daniel Lockhart to score, producing the first of the M-Braves three runs in the inning. Demeritte then immediately followed with a towering two-run home run, his fifth of the season, extending the M-Braves lead 4-0.
Leading 4-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the M-Braves bats caught fire and exploded for a six-run inning. Lien started things off with a line drive RBI single to left field and Demeritte scored from third base. Newly acquired Carlos Martinez collected the first RBI of his M-Braves career on the first hit of his M-Braves career after sending a two-run line drive single to center field. Lockhart produced a run on a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Lien from third base. Neslony rounded out the scoring by slashing a sharp line drive two-run single to center field before being throw out while trying to advance to second base. Martinez and Lago scored on the single by Neslony, making the score 10-0 in favor of the M-Braves.
Down to their final strike in the top of the ninth inning, Jacksonville got on the board after Eric Jagielo doubled on a fly ball to left field, allowing both Cade Gotta and Isan Diaz to score.
M-Braves starting pitcher, Elian Leyva backed the M-Braves offense with a stellar performance on the mound. On the afternoon, the right-hander allowed just two hits, and struck out seven in 4.0 innings pitched. Leyva did not allow any runs nor did he issue any walks.
Relief pitcher, Adam McCreery (2-3, 2.55) earned the win for Mississippi while Jacksonville starter, Brett Graves (0-1, 11.25) suffered the loss.
After winning their home series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3-2 on Sunday, the Mississippi Braves will now prepare for a five-game road series against their in-state rival, the Biloxi Shuckers which will begin on Tuesday, May 29 at 6:35 p.m. (CT) at MGM Park.
