JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Over 8,000 Starbucks stores will be closing Tuesday for racial bias training.

The Jackson Starbucks on Northside Drive has a sign posted outside of the store saying it will close at 2:30 p.m. The Clinton and Ridgeland location will also be closing today at 2:30 and will not reopen until Wednesday morning.

The one-day shutdown is meant to combat bias for company workers. It was prompted by an incident at a Philadelphia Starbucks back in April when a store manager called police on two black men for trespassing.

The men were waiting in the shop for a friend to join them, but were told to leave since they hadn't bought anything yet. They were later arrested.

Starbucks has since apologized and reached a financial settlement with the two men.

Today 175,000 employees will participate in a group discussion, as well as watch a film on bias crafted in part by the NAACP.

Not all stores will close Starbucks counters in hotels, grocery stores and airports will remain open.

For more information, you can visit the Starbucks website or check out their Facebook page.
