JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The task force, set up to come up with a police identification policy for officer involved shootings in Jackson, is now asking for a response from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

In their meeting Monday night, some task force members say it is troubling that MBI has not responded to requests for information on how investigations are handled for officer involved shootings.

The group says that information is critical in coming up with a policy for the Jackson Police Department.

"That they failed to do that in such a substantial way when we extended the invitation to them weeks ago only gives rise and validity to the notion that the citizens have with regard to transparency and having questions about transparency," said C.J. Lawrence, Task Force Chair. "If the information that's being provided is not transparent to the extent that they won't even provide us with how the investigation occurs, not with the specific investigation itself, then it gives rise to questions that I hope at some point MBI is willing to answer.”

Lawrence says the task force hopes to have a model in place by August on how the city will approach officer involved shootings.

We did reach out to MBI Monday night for a comment and we are waiting to hear back.
