LAWRENCE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Lawrence County High School student is dead after a crash Monday night.
According to MHP Corporal Brandon Fortenberry, 17-year-old Dominique Barnes, of Silver Creek, was driving east on Highway 184 near Rogers Place Lane outside of Monticello when she ran off the right side of the road, over-corrected and went left, hitting a tree. She was ejected from the 2006 Lexus she was driving.
Officials say Barnes wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
She died at the scene. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
