HAZLEHURST, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating a one car crash that happened on MS 28, near Ferguson Lane, at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

A 2016 Ford Mustang was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and went into a ditch, causing substantial damage.

Authorities have identified the driver as 19-year-old Shamar Reed from Fayette.

According to the trooper on scene, Reed said he fell asleep behind the wheel.

There were four children in the vehicle and two of them were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center due to their injuries. Reed and the other two children were transported to Copiah Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
