COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Traffic is moving following a four vehicle crash that shut down I-55 southbound near Crystal Springs in Copiah County.

The crash happened around 3:45 Friday when southbound traffic was stopped due to road construction.

Cpl. Kervin Stewart with the Mississippi Highway Patrol says that it appears a Nissan Altima was driving south when it hit a Ford F-150 and then a Ram utility vehicle, causing the Ram utility vehicle to hit a Jeep Cherokee.

The Nissan Altima, Ram utility van and the Ford F-150 sustained heavy damage requiring all of them to be towed from the scene.

The drivers of the F-150 and the Altima were transported due to their injuries. One of the occupants of the Altima was airlifted to UMMC.

The driver of the utility van and the occupants of the Jeep Cherokee were not transported from the scene.

The crash caused the roadway to be closed for over an hour, but the road is now open again.
