PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Pearl Police officer was involved in a wreck on the corner of Sweet Gum and Buffalo Streets Thursday afternoon.

The police SUV and a grey Toyota Tundra collided at the intersection shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

"Well we heard a big boom, I thought it was a bomb or something," said Thelma Brown, who lives across the street from the intersection where the crash happened. "I thought maybe somebody got hurt really bad in that truck. The truck went over this way almost hitting my mailbox."

The cause of the crash is under investigation but according to Pearl PD, the officer was responding to a call on Buffalo Street before the collision.

"What they tell me is that he was going on over there to see about a guy that had a knife or something and he was at his brother's or something with it, trying to get him out of the house or something," said Brown. "So that was it."

Brown identified the other driver as a local pastor who lives down the street from the site of the crash. He was immediately taken to a local hospital.

The officer has not yet been identified.

The conditions of the two drivers are not known at this time.
