JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The 4th Annual Mississippi Craft Beer Festival is Friday at Duling Hall in Fondren.

Fondren Renaissance Foundation, in cooperation with Capital City Beverage Company and Southern Beverage Company, provided over 100 beers for sampling by over three dozen breweries.

Several of the vendors on site said the craft beer business has really taken off in popularity over the past few years.

Donivon Duffy, brand developer and special events coordinator for Richland based Southern Beverage Company said consumers have become more interested in local products.

"The questions we hear when people come in, they want to know what's new and what's local," Duffy said. "Local breweries are a hit here, and Mississippi has taken on the support local movement here in the last few years which has done very well not only in beer but plant-based businesses, poultry, meat, dairy, everyone is doing local."

"Everybody wants to support the local guy," said Derek Nelson, brand manager of Capital City Beverages. "You get people out going to the taprooms, going to the shelves and buying beer from us or at their grocery stores and their bottle shops. It's always good to see the guy down the road doing good."

The surge in popularity has even helped increase foot traffic at local businesses.

"We see a surge in sales and clientele wanting more craft beer instead of just your regular domestics," said Andrew Kehoe, CEO and co-owner of Barrel House. "People will go to a different restaurant or bar if they have one craft beer that just came in town and they'll show patronage to that place."

This is a 21 and up event. Participating breweries include:

Capital City Beverage: Abita,* Ballast Point (new), Bell’s*, Biloxi, Boston Beer*, Founders, Grayton*, Great Raft (new)*, Lagunitas, Lazy Magnolia*, Lucky Town*, New Belgium*, Oskar Blues, Parish Brewing* (new), Port Orleans Brewing, Sierra Nevada*, Sweetwater, Terrapin, Wiseacre, Yazoo.*
