BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A few unexpected guests decided to take a trip through their local barber shop.

Downtown visitors were shocked when the typical Saturday night turned into a really wild one.

Three deer ran through the windows of Brookhaven Barber Shop Sunday night around 8:30 p.m.

"It was crazy," said Brookhaven teacher Jackie Saujon, who is still reeling from what she saw.

She and about 20 others were on Cherokee Street rock hunting when the deer raced passed her and crashed through the door of the barbershop.

"I saw something come out the corner of my eye," said Saujon. "I turned around and saw the glass shatter and it was deer. And then two more came right behind it and tow the them went all the way in then. What they didn't bust going in.They busted coming out."

Several people were on the street just before nightfall.

Angie Cook, who stopped in her tracks then snapped some pictures, was among them.

"We turned to come across the street and they came through the alley way," said Cook. "One went through the door and the other two slid through this window and they were dancing around trying to get back out."

Shop owner Jill Lewis Case was home when friends began calling, and she said she really didn't grasp what they were saying.

"My phone started going off immediately and I looked at it and I said 'Oh my that's my shop. What is the deal?'" said Case. "So phone calls started coming in with people telling me 'Jill you need to get down here. There's deer tearing your shop up.'"

The door and window were shattered, leaving glass sprinkled from the barber chairs to the waiting area.

Case has no insurance and will have to pay for the damages on her own.

Ironically, she's been renovating, and new barbers were to open in the shop Monday morning. Now, she's trying to take it all in stride.

"I think the deer just wanted to come in and get a trim," said Case, with a giggle after the jaw dropping experience.

Case said they tore up some of the furniture, scratched up the floor and shattered the glass as they broke out.

She said walk-ins are welcome at her, just not after hours.

Case added that some kids and their parents were walking around downtown when they saw the deer coming up one of the alleys beside the shop. She thinks the deer got spooked and ran toward the lights inside the shop.

According to Saujon, the deer ran across the street from an alley before crashing into the business.
