New details: Minor accidentally shot at Oceans One Resort was unattended, parents charged and released

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A 4 year-old child accidentally shot himself between the eyes Saturday evening in a room of the Oceans One Resort in Myrtle Beach, according to Myrtle Beach Police. 

Both parents, Heather Lyn Odom and Jeremy Jermaine Barrett, have been charged with unlawful neglect of a child. According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department the child is still in critical condition. 

Judge Clifford Welsh granted release under their own recognizance after hearing testimony from friends as family as well as the victims advocate. 

According to a press release, the minor was alone and unattended in a room of the resort before finding the firearm his mother's purse. The child was rushed to Grand Strand Hospital for treatment. 

The couple's next court date is September 14.
