JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened during a carjacking late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

The man who was killed has been identified by the Hinds County coroner as 27-year-old Aaron Cory Hancock.

Jackson police say shortly after 10:30 p.m. officers responded to Bailey Avenue for a possible robbery and shooting. When they arrived, they learned from a woman there that her boyfriend had been shot and his car was stolen.

The woman told police that she and her boyfriend drove to the area to pick up someone known as "Lil G". They drove to an abandoned property where the suspect held out a handgun and told her boyfriend to get out of the car. He then shot Hancock at least one time before getting into his car and driving away.

Hancock was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Jackson police, the suspect is a black male who goes by the name "Lil G". He was last seen wearing a dark colored cap and plain t-shirt.

We are working to get more details on this developing story.
