The role of the technical and networking support specialist is to support the end user to ensure reliable and efficient use of computers, networks, LANs (Local Area Networks) and WANs (Wide Area Networks) within the business structure. They confer with staff, users, and management to determine requirements for new systems or modification. They develop training materials and procedures and train end users for specific programs.
Excellent communication skills are necessary for the technical support specialist. Not only must they explain procedures and teach new software packages in a patient and courteous manner, they must also comprehend the end user's description of problems that arise. Training in applications software, hardware, and operating systems are necessary, as well as being familiar with the different network topologies and configurations.
