Associate Degree of Applied Business


The Associate Degree of Applied Business in Business Office Technology in Medical Assisting Program is designed to provide the student with skills necessary to work side by side with the physician. Career choices include entry-level positions as EKG technician, pharmacy technician, medical secretary, laboratory technician, insurance technician, insurance physical technician, phlebotomist, clinical assistant, insurance claim representative, medical office manager, and other general medical and clerical jobs.

Hands-on clinical training in vital signs, physical exams, EKGs, venipuncture, urinalysis, and medication administration will enable medical assistants to assist physicians and other members of health care teams. Administrative training such as word processing, medical records, and advanced computer classes will enable students to work in administrative offices as well as clinical settings. Pharmacology, psychology, and public speaking, as well as the more advanced computer classes will enable degree students to enter the workforce with advanced clerical skills in the medical field.
