In the year of 2000, Rev. Freddie L. Carson, Pastor of South Liberty Missionary Baptist Church (SLMBC), located in Canton, Mississippi, had a vision to form a Mass Choir. The SLMBC Mass Choir was organized in 2001 under the new Minister of Music, Brother Alonzo Williams. Kelli Arlette Grant became the Choir Director. The choir originally started with 40 members and today consists of 85 members whose age's range from 7 to 75.
The choir has participated in various programs and events over the following years, namely the Canton Gospel Homecoming, the Annual Mississippi State Fair, the Martin Luther King Celebration, Medgar Evers Homecoming, Annual Mississippi Gospel Artist Showcase, Jubilee JAM and also, the Farish Street Festival.
God continues to lay his hands on the choir and gives them traveling grace as they continue to lift and praise his name through inspirational songs. In August of 2004, the choir was nominated and won the prestigious Jackson Music Award "Local Choir of the Year." God has certainly been good to this choir over the past years. Through constant prayer, the South Liberty Baptist Mass Choir will continue to spread the good news through songs and will be abundantly blessed throughout the coming years.
