For the past 13 weeks, WLBT's Paul Williams has been patting our teachers on the back for a job well done.

WLBT teamed up with Bumpers restaurants to give away a Sunshine Award every week to a special educator. On Wednesday, he surprised the grand prize winner.

Tracy Clemons-Frazier teaches the Montessori program to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Jackson's McWillie Elementary School. Because of her dedication to teaching and her knack for bringing out the best in each student, she wins the Teacher of the Year award. For her efforts, Mrs. Frazier will get a weekend trip to a resort in Alabama. Bumpers also gave her $500 in spending money.

Mrs. Frazier said she was genuinely surprised to receive the award. "It just validates what I do. Just being here for the kids is the most wonderful job in the world. We come here because we love what we do. It's not about the awards. Yes, the awards help, but the children are the most important thing," she said.

Clemons-Frazier has been teaching for 12 years. She was nominated for the Sunshine Award by the school's P-T-A President, Annie Lampkin.
