Hinds County Fallen Soldiers Remembered

In Hinds County, those who paid the ultimate sacrifice were remembered by family, friends and fellow service men and women.

Monday morning a Memorial Day program was held at the Hinds County Courthouse for veterans and their families.

A wreath laying ceremony was held out front, which included the playing of taps, and a twenty-one gun salute.

Several veterans who served in Korea, World War II and the Gulf War were present. The annual event gives those who served in the military time to reflect on the soldiers who never made it home, whether they were killed in action, or were taken prisoners of war.

Vietnam veteran I.H.  Montgomery said, "I think about em, particularly those who didn't make it, and I cherish the friendship of those who I had. I'll never forget my fellow servicemen."

The program was held in front of the Hinds County War Memorial, in front of the Hinds County Courthouse. The memorial bears the names of 465 Hhinds County residents who died serving their country.
