Wendy Suares

Wendy Suares is a native Mississippian, born and raised in Biloxi. She first joined the WLBT Team January 2006 as the "statewide" reporter for several stations throughout the state. She traded the political beat for early mornings when she became co-anchor of WLBT's morning newscasts in June 2007.

Before reporting for WLBT, Wendy was the main anchor and reporter at WXVT in Greenville, Mississippi. Her work there earned her a 1st place Associated Press award for news photography.

Wendy began her broadcasting career in high school as an intern at WLOX in Biloxi. She also worked behind the scenes at WWL in New Orleans and New England Cable News in Boston.  She got her first taste covering politics while interviewing candidates in the 2004 presidential race.

College took Wendy way up North to Boston, where she graduated cum laude from Emerson College. While earning her bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Communications, Wendy co-anchored and reported for the Associated Press' "College News Station of the Year." She also co-hosted a jazz radio program on WERS-FM.

Wendy spent a semester in college studying in The Netherlands and backpacking around Europe. She also played college tennis and continues to play in several local leagues.  She's also active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors for Hope Hollow, which provides camping and retreat experiences for children and adults with disabilities.

In May 2009, Wendy married Stephen Evans, a teacher and coach at St. Andrew's Episcopal School.  They share their home with their two rescued Labrador retrievers, Rufus and Jack.
