In the Miss Mississippi Pageant's first night of preliminary competition, three winners were announced in talent and swimsuit. One of the winners tells us about the special meaning behind the song she performed and the importance of being on the Miss Mississippi stage.
When Emily Senter, Miss Heritage, eard her name Wednesday night she broke into tears. She says this win was overwhelming and holds special meaning for her.
Senter says achieving this goal is not just about the pageant it is in memory of a special friend, and that is why she chose the song she performed.
miss itawamba community college, corie philece stanford, also won in talent. This is her first year at Miss Mississippi.
Three members from the 2005 top ten were in the swimsuit competition. But when the votes were counted, it was a repeat win for Tara Tutor, Miss University. She's won the swimsuit preliminary for three years in a row and says her win is about choosing a healthy lifestyle.
Talent winners receive 300 dollar scholarships, and swimsuit 200 dollars.
This year at the Miss Mississippi Pageant more focus is being placed on talent. Talent will count for 35 percent of the contestants overall score during preliminary competition .
