Readiness Center Named for Fallen Soldier

The Army National Guard in Starkville remembered one of its own by dedicating its readiness center to a fallen soldier.

Staff Sgt. Travis Cooper died on July 16, 2005, from wounds he sustained the day before, while searching a vehicle in Iraq.

Cooper was a member of the 2nd Battalion 114th Field Artillery Regiment. A host of family members, soldiers, friends, and elected officials were on hand to take part in the dedication.

A plaque bearing Cooper's likeness and an inscription will be displayed at the readiness center.
