Oil Fire Findings

New information on last year's deadly Smith County oil field explosion. An investigation by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board claims last June's accident was the result of unsafe work practices.

Workers at the Partridge-Raleigh Oil Field were welding pipes between tanks when sparks ignited flammable vapor venting. This triggered a series of explosions, killing three Stringer Oilfield Services employees and seriously injured another.

Stringers' was cited by OSHA for 13 serious safety violations. Now the CSB is calling on the Mississippi Oil and Gas Board to do more to ensure oil field companies are following safety guidelines.

Right now, Mississippi oil fields are only inspected after complaints or accidents.
