This year 47 contestants from around the state are hoping they will be the 50th young woman to win the crown of Miss Mississippi 2007. Tonight Taryn Foshee looks back at the Miss America Pageant and her year as Miss Mississippi.
Taryn Foshee says the year has been a blurr.
Foshee says "It's just perfect that this is a Dreamgirl event this year and you know, to end with the 50th celebration, to be here and share the stage with these former Miss Mississippis and Miss Americas, it just could not have ended in a better way."
After winning the Miss Mississippi crown Foshee spent several months preparing for the Miss America pageant. She made the top ten and then the top five. She was the third runner up to Miss America.
She says "We got there for the Top 5, and then they began to call out who the Top 3 were going to be, you know, I was just at peace with it. I sort of knew that I thought that was as far as I had gone and I was okay with it, and I was excited, and it was just a wonderful experience."
Saturday night Miss Mississippi will crown a new state representative during the 50th anniversary of the pageant. She has some advice for the winner.
Foshee says "This young lady to be crowned in the 50th anniversary, that is just something that won't happen for another 50 years. And so just cherish that moment Saturday night and then just wake up Monday morning and hit the ground running."
After leaving Vicksburg Saturday Foshee has some decisions to make about her future.
She says "I am applying to Law school in the fall still.. And being in the Top 5 at Miss America did open some doors I did not know would be open to me and so I'm just taking my time. That's another thing I want to do in this five weeks is just really take some time to process everything to pray about it, to think about it."
Foshee says wherever she ends up it has been a dream come true to be apart of this elite group of women. The 49th person to proudly wear the crown and title of Miss Mississippi.
