Smith: DA's Race 'Not About Endorsements'

Robert Shuler Smith is rallying last-minute support for his bid to replace Faye Peterson as Hinds County district attorney. The two will face off in next Tuesday's runoff.

Smith gathered with friends and supporters at the county courthouse Wednesday morning.

Smith wants to remind voters of his key issues for the office, including targeting repeat offenders, prosecuting home burglary cases, and going after ID thieves.

On Tuesday, WLBT reported that Peterson had picked up endorsements from Sheriff Malcolm McMillin and Michele Purvis, who ran against her in the party primary.

"This race is not about endorsements," Smith said. "We are thankful to have the ones we have."

"Sixty percent said they were not satisifed with the current D.A.," Smith said, referring to the overall vote count from the primary. "That's more important than endorsement."
