Pilot Returns from Afghanistan to Hero's Welcome

Neighbors in the Deerfield subdivision in Madison welcomed home one of their own servicemen from Afghanistan today.

American flags and welcome home signs lined Deerfield Drive as Chief Warrent Officer 5 David Lee arrived home this afternoon. Lee is a Mississippi Army National Guard pilot in the Detachment 16 Operational Support Airlift Unit.

His unit was deployed and attached to the 82nd Airborne Division for contingency operations in Bagram, Afghanistan. He and ten other servicemen left Jackson on January 27th. A group of neighbors greeted Lee with hugs and handshakes, thanking him for his service to our country.

Lee says he was surprised by and thankful for Thursday's homecoming celebration. Lee operates a "King Air 200" and was in charge of flying people, cargo, and mail to and from various locations. The 37 year old veteran says he hopes to retire early next year.
