BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Jimmy Oliver threw for three touchdowns and Jackson State earned its 16th Southwestern Athletic Conference championship by beating Grambling State 42-31 in the title game. Jackson State went ahead to stay when Oliver threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Jones as he was being tackled early in the fourth quarter. Lavarus Giles closed the scoring by running 54 yards for a TD with 11:45 left. Oliver completed 16-of-30 passes for 249 yards, while Giles rushed 23 times for 117 yards and two scores. Grambling scored 19 unanswered points in the third quarter to go ahead 31-28. Brandon Landers threw for two touchdown passes and a pair of two-point conversions in the quarter. Both teams end the year 8-and-4.
