Musgrove Attacks Wicker in Bid for Senate Seat

Former Governor Ronnie Musgrove officially launched his campaign for the United States Senate with an attack on the record of his longtime friend, interim senator Roger Wicker.

Musgrove said Wicker has voted to increase the national debt and to provide "billions of dollars in special interest pork" for states such as New York, California and Kansas.

"I'm sure that Roger will give you all sort of reasons and excuses why he's voted the way he's voted, and he'll probably try and blame someone else in the other political party," Musgrove said. "But if you stop and think about it, that's a part of the big problem in Washington today."

Musgrove, a Democrat, shared a Jackson apartment with Wicker, a Republican, for three sessions in the early 1990s when both were serving in the state senate.

Governor Haley Barbour appointed Wicker on December 31 to fill the Senate seat vacated by the GOP's Trent Lott, who retired.
