Attorney Sells Millions In Assets

WLBT has confirmed that high-profile trial lawyer Joey Langston of Booneville, Mississippi has put $14.4 million dollars in assets on the block.

A Beechcraft corporate jet is for sale. It is a 2006 executive package jet. The asking price is $5,495,000.00. The FAA lists the registered owner as Langston law firm in Booneville. We were told Tuesday by the listing agent that the jet was under contract.  The buyer is from Jackson.

Also on the market is Langston's luxury resort home at a ski resort in Telluride, Colorado. The sprawling, fully-furnished home boasts over 9,000 square feet and five bedrooms. A Colorado  real estate website has the listing.  The asking price for the home has been reduced to $8,950,000.00. Our address check at the Mountain Village, Colorado home lists the upscale residence to Joey Langston.

Meanwhile, the government intends to introduce "similar acts of evidence" in their case against multimillionaire and legal kingpin Dickie Scruggs, his son Zach, their legal associate Sidney Backstrom, former assistant attorney general and Scruggs counsel Timothy Balducci, and former state auditor Steve Patterson.

The group is accused of conspiring to bribe Circuit Court Judge Henry Lackey with $40,000 in exchange for a favorable ruling involving $26 million in Katrina legal fees.

Balducci, Langston and Patterson pleaded guilty, and all are reportedly cooperating with the federal prosecutors. Scruggs, son Zach and Backstrom have pleaded not guilty.

Langston has implicated Scruggs, Patterson, Balducci and Ed Peters to a separate case -- a 1994 asbestos litigation dispute over $16 million. The lawsuit was settled in Scruggs' favor by Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Bobby DeLaughter. According to Langston, Judge DeLaugher's name was circulated for a federal judgeship in return. It is not known which case the similar acts of evidence may be linked to, or if the motion could be related to something new entirely different.
