Jackson State "Hold Out" Now Willing to Sell

The Bill to allow Jackson State University to take homes for neighborhood development has died in the Senate.

JSU wants to develop a 50 acre area east of the campus.

Senate bill 28-96- quick take legislation- would have let the university to take immediate possession of property many residents opposed the action.

Gloria Greene lives on Canal Street and now says she will sell. But she says her 87 year old mother lives nearby and feels the school is trying to build a separate empire from the community.  "She's been on that street for 38 years. It's no where for her to start over at that age, and it's a lot of people in the community that has spent most of their life here, and they're not ready to move out or to just leave."

JSU President Dr. Ronald Mason did not return our calls for comment.
