Ross Concedes to Harper in Runoff

Former State Senator Charlie Ross of Brandon called his challenger to concede the race when it was apparent Tuesday night that he would not be victorious.

He was hoping to defeat Pearl attorney Gregg Harper for the Republican nomination in the 3rd District congressional race to replace Chip Pickering, who decided not to run for re-election.

Ross, 52, and his wife, Sharon, addressed a crowded room of supporters at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Lakeland Drive around 9:10 Tuesday night.

Harper was leading Ross by more than 6500 votes when he conceded the race. Ross said he was disappointed with the outcome of the race but not disappointed in the campaign.

"I can honestly say that we started out the campaign from Day One saying I was running on my record, and we ended the campaign at 6:59 today running on my record," Ross said. "I can honestly say we didn't leave anything on the field, and we wouldn't do anything different -- and that lets you sleep well at night."

Ross said he is pleased that Harper is a conservative Republican and he has pledged his support.
