Disbarred Jackson Attorney Indicted

A recently disbarred Jackson attorney was indicted on felony charges. John Allen is charged with one count of bankruptcy fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering.  U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton filed the charges last week.

According to the charges, Allen fraudulently concealed more than $20,000 in connection with a bankruptcy case. Allen is also accused of pocketing $140,000 he received from a client that was supposed to pay off the client's debt.

Jim Lofton, the alleged victim's son, says, "I was livid, when somebody takes advantage of your mother who's 75 years old and has never been a money manager herself. She's always had somebody to take care of that for her and she then entrusted that to him and he betrayed all that trust."

A judge set Allen's bond at $10,000. If convicted on all three counts, Allen could face a maximum of 35 years on prison and up to $750,000 in fines.
