City Council Issues Emergency Order

Rising fuel prices have forced Jackson leaders to take emergency action.

Finance department officials say June's rising gas costs have depleted funding in the city's police, fire and public works departments.

Budget officials say fuel costs are up 40% over last year.

Council members approved an emergency order to shift more than $856,000  to the gasoline budget to fuel the city's 1250 cars and trucks.

Council members will study plans to reduce non-essential vehicle use.

By the way, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the Jackson area Wednesday morning is holding at 3.94 a gallon.
